Welcome
to my
Paintings and Drawings Website
First, some boring stuff about myself, the interesting parts were earlier in my life.
My name is Jim Carey and I'm 62 (now 71) years old. In 1994 I moved to Portknockie, which is a small fishing village on the north east coast of Scotland. I had stopped working due to ill-health and wanted to settle in a small quiet place away from the city life of Glasgow, and Portknockie was the ideal place to do this.
How peaceful and relaxing it is sitting on the clifftops looking down upon the harbour or taking a walk down the path to the Bow Fiddle Rock or at night just watching the sunset on the horizon. In the summer months, the dolphins can be seen playing in the Moray Firth along with the fishing boats heading back to Buckie, the fishermen hoping for good prices. However, this isn't a site promoting Portknockie, there are far better sites available on the Internet than I could ever manage. e.g. www.portknockiewebsite.co.uk
Back to boring old me.
I had brought with me some Past and Present books of Partick, Glasgow, you know the ones where there is an old and new photo of the same place, these can be purchased of other towns also. One day, to pass the time, I got paper and pencil and started drawing the photos from the books and found that I was actually quite enjoying it, although not very good. After a few months, I discovered there was an art club in the Cullen Community Centre, which I duly joined and with the help of the tutor Douglas Summers, who has since sadly passed away, and many others I was able to progress into watercolours, pastels and oils. I stopped going to the art club about 6 years ago, strangely enough that's about the same time that I got a computer. Don't they take over your life? Anyway I thought I would combine both and let other people have a look at some of my work, some of which are copied from books, other paintings and calendars.
